 DIDE! ARISE!!  “ My Taxi Story” So the other day, I was returning home from work with my colleague in a taxi. Just few minutes to get to the bus stop, our ride suddenly broke down. No! Don’t overthink it, it wasn’t an accident. Initially, it will just take us a short walk from that spot to get to the bus stop that’s if we decide to get off the car, but we all sat in the hot car while the driver was trying to get it started again.  We must have waited there for close to 6 minutes as the engine turned on and off to no avail. No one made a move to get out, since we’ve all paid for the ride. Even as the temperatures rose in the small car, everyone just sat there patiently as if nothing was wrong. Argh! I couldn’t take it anymore. I could see the frustration growing on our driver's face as he kept trying different things. YOUR RELUCTANT SELF (A MUST READ FOR YOUNG ADULTS) We all experience moments when our reluctant self tries to hold us back or lead us astray without us fully realizing it. Recently, I faced same thing.  Stay with me,  My mum asked that I help out with some couple of work at home. That exact moment I was in bed, just resting. I wasn’t exactly sleeping when she entered my room and listed the things I had to do. My initial response was that I felt weak, though I didn't truly feel that way at the time. I was so reluctant to get off bed that I had to tell her that. Later in the day, when I was ready to do my duties, I was so weak that I struggled through my tasks as the weakness I spoke into being took hold. Yes! I regretted my actions! **** Then, The Holy Spirit revealed an important lesson to me, that agreeing to the suggestions of our reluctant self gives those words power over us. BEYOND SELF BLAME I feel like we've all been there, making a mistake and instantly launching into self-criticism.  Before, there were times I’d just blame myself for whatsoever mistake I made. I didn’t want to know if it was caused by some factor or someone else. I’d prefer just blaming myself and feeling bad. I will tell myself, “You could have done better” “You could have avoided that if you had chosen this way” “What is wrong with me sef?”. “Opeyemi, why are you this slow? You should have talked earlier”. Goshhh! I will just confidently blame myself, probably that was the only way I thought I could console myself or feel better. But now I have learnt to always see the best in myself no matter the mistake or challenges I face because I have come to the realization that whatsoever mistake you make, aside from blaming yourself, why not look at the brighter side?
